Project David is a endeavor primarily undertaken by Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peoria, Ilinois. Pastors Craig Stanford and Douglas Handrich have served as the leaders for this endeavor. In 1994 Project David began sponsoring free conferences and publishing materials in the Peoria/Tazewell area for the purpose of instilling a deeper understanding and appreciation of, and compliance with, true Lutheran theology on the part of our pastors, laity, and congregations. Project David accepts all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments as the revealed Word of God, verbally inspired, and unconditionally subscribes to all the Confessional Symbols of the Evangelical Lutheran Church contained in the Book of Concord of 1580. Project David is dedicated to the doctrinal imperatives given to us by the Word of God. Project David shall:
-
Confess Jesus and all of His words before the world (Luke 9:26) given to
us in His written Word.
-
Teach all that Christ commanded, not merely selection portions (Matt. 28:20).
-
Work for doctrinal agreement to heal the divisions among us, and bring
us to unified doctrinal judgments (1 Cor. 1:10).
-
Test ourselves in accordance with the test of true doctrine, the test of
true righteousness, and the test of true love (1 John).
-
Work to preserve Gospel freedom and its right use (Gal 5:1).
-
Oppose those who introduce alien doctrines that distort the Gospel (Gal.
1:8-9).
-
Foster one spirit, fighting side-by-side with one mind (Phil. 1:27) and
contending for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3).
-
Continue in the faith we learned from Scripture, using God's Word to teach,
point out error, and correct for the training in righteousness. (2 Tim.
3:14-16).
-
Take note of those who cause disagreements and cause people to fall from
the faith by going against the teaching of the prophets and apostles (Rom.
16:17).
-
Warn our brothers who will not listen to the true teaching of Christ (2
Thess. 3:15), and warn those who have wandered off course, but who still
teach (1 Tim. 1:1-11).
-
Equip the saints (Eph 4:12) for every good work.
-
Build upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus,
as the cornerstone (Eph. 2:20-22).
Project David shall uphold and support those individuals, congregations, teachings, programs, organizations, and agencies that foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of, and compliance to confessional Lutheran theology. It will also hold conferences and publish papers and other materials consistent with the doctrine and purpose of the endeavor.
